Web Application for Obtaining Surface Water Area Data
This web application provides surface water area data, extracted using the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) from Landsat 5, 7, and 8 imagery. Data are available for the period from 1984 to 2024, with complete records up to 2023. For each hydrological year, which runs from April to March, the median MNDWI is calculated. A default threshold of 0.09 is applied to classify pixels as water. This threshold generally yields accurate results, but users have the option to adjust it if a different value is more appropriate for their specific analysis.
The app displays a chart with the annual surface water area values in hectares. Additionally, you will observe the trend for the study period, representing the average rate of change in water body area per year. This trend was derived using Sen's Slope method.
